The Influence of a Godly Life

The following quote is from a sermon titled "You Are the Light of the World" by John MacArthur, which can be found on the Grace to You website:

"Listen, the way to change the world isn't to change it politically, it isn't to rewrite the laws, or march, or to try and use technical paraphernalia for altering society. The way to change the world is to infiltrate it with godliness, righteousness, and holiness, and affect it from the inside out. Those other things aren't wrong, but they will be powerless unless our lives are what they ought to be. Think about it this way: never has the church been more involved in social action in recent history in our country. Never have we been so preoccupied with endeavoring to see Christianity in government, and what is the result? A society that is more immoral than it has ever been, because that's not the way to do it. The way to do it is the influence of a godly life." John MacArthur

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men." Matthew 5:13

"Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete." Luke 6:46-49

"His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of
our Lord Jesus Christ." 2 Peter 1:3-8
