Christian Olympians

The Olympics are such a wonderful testimony to God's handiwork in humans. I fall in love with God more and more as I watch the Olympics and see the fantastic talents and abilities God empowered man to have, use and especially enjoy. Just like when I step into my garden and see the incredible pattern and ingenuity in flowers that point to the Creator, I see that same Creator as Shaun White astounds with half-pipe feats, Bode Miller nails the perfect run of his life for gold, and Evan Lysacek models grace on, and off, the ice. Whether or not all of the athletes believe in God, they are a testimony to the God that created them and endowed them with their athletic abilities.

It is my prayer that all of these athletes will one day know the freedom that comes with giving God the glory for their accomplishments. And maybe that will come about as they are introduced to God through other athletes like the ones portrayed on an awesome website,"Beyond the Ultimate," which profiles several Christian Olympians. Be sure to watch featured videos of USA snowboarder Kelly Clark and Canadian speed skater Cindy Klassen. You can also read the personal testimonies of several other Olympic athletes. Meet them here:

"Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40: 28-31

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance." James 1:2-3

"Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." James 1:16-17
